Sister City Sends Gift Of Tree For Sesquicentennial: Santa Clara's sister-city Izumo, Japan has sent a gift of a mature size cherry tree in celebration of the City's Sesquicentennial (1852-2002). Mayor Nishio and an Izumo delegation of 20 people journeyed to Santa Clara for the City's July 4th 150th birthday party, to officially 'present' the tree to the Santa Clara community.

The Cherry tree gift was brought to Santa Clara in early March, 2002. With the assistance of a small delegation from Izumo City, along with the City's Arborist, the tree was planted with a short ceremony at a City Council meeting to acknowledge the very generous gift. The adjacent photograph shows this beautiful tree in full bloom.
