  • California Library Association's Public Library Section "2005 Award for Excellence as a Public Librarian" to Mary Hanel, Library Program Coordinator-Local History
  • National Arbor Day Foundation's "2005 Tree City USA" and "Growth Award."
  • Government Finance Officers Association presented a "Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting" for Comprehensive Annual Financial Report
  • Silicon Valley Power received two Awards of Excellence for Economic Development Program from the California Association of Local Economic Development
  • The American Red Cross presented "Circle of Humanitarians" Award of Support at the highest level to victims of Gulf Coast hurricane disasters.
  • Wall Street Journal named City of Santa Clara as One of Nation’s Top Ten Most Inventive Towns
  • Liberty Tower, a senior housing complex, presented the City of Santa Clara a "Community Salute" plaque in appreciation of support of affordable senior housing.
  • The National Association of Flood & Stormwater Management Agencies presented the “2006 Excellence in Communication Award-Improving Water Quality (third place) under their Watershed Watch Campaign-Santa Clara Valley Urban Runoff Pollution Prevention Program
  • The City received the Environmental Protection Agency's Outstanding Municipal Stormwater Program First Place Award for the Santa Clara Valley Urban Runoff Pollution Prevention Program.
  • The Santa Clara City Library rated third out of 329 public libraries nationally by the Hennen's American Public Library Ratings.
  • California Library Association's PR Excellence Award 2006 went to Senior Library Assistant David Smith for his design of Library’s Teen/Net Website.
  • The National Energy Renewable Conference awarded the City of Santa Clara/Silicon Valley Power with the 2006 Green Power Leadership Award.
2005:
  • The City’s Information Technology Department received the "Achievement in Information Technology Practices Award" for 2003-04 from the Municipal Information Systems Association of California.
  • National Arbor Day Foundation awarded the City the "2004 Tree City USA" and "Growth Award."
  • Building Official, Sheila Lee, received the Victor L. Taugher Building Official of the Year Award.
  • Certificate of Achievement in Financial Reporting for Comprehensive Annual Financial Report was awarded by the Government Finance Officers Association.
  • The City received a Certificate of Achievement for 7 consecutive satisfactory rating sin the Biennial Inspection of Terminal Program from the California Highway Patrol.
  • The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence "Blue Seal of Excellence Award" for the third consecutive year was presented to the City's Automotive Services Division.
  • The Peter W. Walsh Award was presented to the Parks Superintendent George Friedenbach for his outstanding service to the Maintenance Superintendents Association.
  • The "Excellence in Information Technology Practices Award" for 2004/05 was received by the Information Technology Department from the Municipal Information Systems Association of California.
2004:
  • The Street and Engineering Departments received Metropolitan Transportation Commission’s "Bay Area Best Road 2004" award.
  • The California Boards Association gave the Santa Clara Unified School District and the City the "Golden Bell Award" for its partnership.
  • The "2003 Tree City USA" and "Growth Award" was presented by the National Arbor Day Foundation.
  • The Silicon Valley Power received the "Acterra 2004 Environmental Award" for Habitat/City Gianera Housing Project installation of photovoltaic solar electric systems in the area of Social Equity for sustainability.
  • The 2004 ICMA Mark E. Keane Award of Career Excellence Award went to City Manager Jennifer Sparacino.
  • The City received the 2004 Governor's Historic Preservation Award for support of the City's Sesquicentennial Projects in 2000, 2001 and 2002.
  • The California Integrated Waste Management Board presented the Santa Clara Convention Center with the 2004 Waste Reduction Awards Program Award (WRAP)
  • The IT Department received the "Achievement in Information Technology Practices Award" from the Municipal Information Systems Association of California.
