The Foundation and Friends of Santa Clara City Library recently recognized seven volunteers for outstanding community service. Betty Ann Burns, Maura Burns, Janice Kimmel, Margie Klaus, Chris Phillips, Elsie Stickwerda, and Peter Williamson were honored for their work at the Central Park Library’s Friends Book Store.

During the last two years, the Foundation and Friends of the Santa Clara City Library raised $110,000 to help sponsor the Library Summer Reading Program and the AmeriCorps for Literacy Program. Funds also have purchased items needed for the new Library, such as wireless microphones, the consumer information table, a portable stage, and folk art displayed in the Youth Services area.

The Book Store is open seven days a week and staffed by 22 dedicated volunteers under the direction of Marty Hull, president of the Foundation and Friends of Santa Clara City Library. More workers are needed, especially for Monday evenings in the Book Store and to help with the special book sales on the third Saturday of each month. Interested volunteers may apply at the Foundation and Friends Office in Library Administration, or call (408) 615-2987.
