SHOWTIME 2008!
In 1982, long-time Santa Clara resident Cleo Stuckrath, concerned about the possible closure of the Santa Clara Senior Center’s Health and Wellness Program, established the Santa Clara Women’s League and wrote and produced a melodrama that year, starring local talent, and raising money so that the program could continue. Through the years, “Showtime” has raised over a quarter of a million dollars to retain and support nursing services at the City’s Senior Center, while providing the community with some good old-fashioned entertainment and annual fun for the entire family.
This year, the Santa Clara Women’s League again sponsors Showtime 2008, the 26th annual production raising funds for the Senior Center’s Health and Wellness Program. This event will be held in the Mary Louise Mello auditorium at the Santa Clara Community Recreation Center, 969 Kiely Boulevard in Santa Clara, on:
| Friday – March 7, 2008 |
6:30 p.m. pre-show and 7:00 p.m. curtain |
| Saturday – March 8, 2008 |
6:30 p.m. pre-show and 7:00 p.m. curtain |
| Sunday – March 9, 2008 |
1:30 p.m. pre-show and 2:00 p.m. curtain |
This year's production features not only a short melodrama ("Nowhere to Go, or Out of the Frying Pan into the Fire"), but also a youth variety talent competition. The youth variety talent competition will be among invited youths (individuals and small groups, ages 12 to 18) from Santa Clara County competing for trophies and prizes. The audience will vote to select the winners each night who will be sent to Sunday's finals.
Come boo the villains, and cheer the heroes of the melodrama! Come help select and encourage a possible future star! Win nightly prize drawings and bid for silent auction gifts. Admission is only $7.00. Tickets can be bought in advance at the Santa Clara Senior Center, located at 1303 Fremont Street in Santa Clara. Food and beverages will be available for purchase at the event. Questions? E-mail scshowtime@yahoo.com!
