Hazardous Waste Fees
The Santa Clara Fire Department Hazardous Materials Division assesses fees to fund the Division and the programs it is mandated to implement. Companies that generate and/or treat hazardous waste are billed annually based on the highest tier of treatment and the amount of hazardous waste generated. The State of California also assesses a surcharge on business that are part of the Unified Program. The Santa Clara Fire Department collects the surcharges and forwards them to the State. These fees are billed with the annual business tax according to the schedule shown below:

Hazardous Waste Treatment - Permit By Rule $500.00
Hazardous Waste Treatment - Conditional Authorization $250.00
Hazardous Waste Treatment - Conditional Exemption $120.00
Hazardous Waste Generator - Used Oil Only $200.00
Hazardous Waste Generator - Less than 100 kg/year $200.00
Hazardous Waste Generator - Less than 5 tons/year $400.00
Hazardous Waste Generator - 5 to less than 25 tons/year $650.00
Hazardous Waste Generator - 25 to less than 50 tons/year $1,200.00
Hazardous Waste Generator - 50 to less than 250 tons/year $2,200.00
Hazardous Waste Generator - 250 to less than 500 tons/year $4,000.00
Hazardous Waste Generator - 500 to less than 1,000 tons/year $6,000.00
Hazardous Waste Generator - 1,000 to less than 2,000 tons/year $7,500.00
Hazardous Waste Generator - 2,000 or more tons/year $9,000.00
Underground Tank State Surcharge $15.00 per tank
Unified Program State Surcharge $24.00
California Accidental Release Prevention Program State Surcharge   $270.00

 
Fire Permit Fee Schedule

Companies are also billed according to the amount and types of hazardous materials stored and used on site. This fee schedule is available on the Fire Permit Fee Schedule (Municipal Fire Code Exhibit A) (PDF) under "(3) Fire Permit Fees: (Renewable Annually)."
