City Fire Department, Union, & Staff Honored

The Santa Clara Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration has selected the Santa Clara Fire Department's Community Service Program as the Outstanding Public Program for 2000. The Firefighters' Union, in cooperation with the Santa Clara Fire Department, directs 24 different programs that reach out to community members of all ages. The programs are as diverse as firefighter mentoring of middle school students, performing home repairs and improvements for senior residents, and providing people with disabilities the chance to take a trip to the beach and enjoy the ocean. In addition, Santa Clara Fire Chief Phil Kleinheinz and Fire Captain David Rose were honored in the Outstanding Public Administrator category. The awards were presented at a reception in San Jose on June 15, 2000.
