| Graduation from high school
or possession of a GED and 60 semester units from an accredited college
or university with a major in business administration, finance, public
relations, grounds management or other closely related field and experience
in day to day supervision of cemetery maintenance and operations. |

| Distinguishing Characteristics |
| This is a professional managerial
position in the unclassified service responsible for planning, organizing
and supervising the maintenance operations of the City Cemetery. The
incumbent is responsible for developing a special interest in supervising,
managing, motivating, correcting, appraising the performance of, initiating
or commenting upon evaluation reports leading to commendations, disciplinary
actions, censure, promotions or demotions of assigned subordinate
personnel. |

| Typical Duties |
| Under general direction of
the Parks & Recreation Director plans and directs the maintenance
and operations activities of the City Cemetery including but not limited
to supervising and training workers engaged in providing burial services,
landscaping or maintenance of cemetery grounds; and supervising the
preparation of required legal records, monthly activity reports, gasoline
usage records, interment reports and other records relating to the
day to day maintenance and operation of the Cemetery. Participates
in the development of the Cemetery budget and budget estimates and
regulating expenditures to administer budget. Approves details including
but not limited to site of burial, opening of gravesite, burial of
remains, cremations and disinterments. Promotes good will and provides
information on the operation of the City Cemetery through activities
including but not limited to conferring with bereaved families, funeral
directors, health department officials, vendors and others. Keeps
abreast of the current laws, rules and regulations regarding cemetery
operations and recommends changes to procedure to ensure that the
City is in compliance with such laws, rules and regulations. Performs
miscellaneous tasks including but not limited to picking up necessary
permits concerning the disposition of remains, assisting as pallbearer
and does other related work as required. |

| Knowledge, Skills, and
Abilities |
| Knowledge of the California
Cemetery Code; knowledge of various funeral home policies and practices;
knowledge of the rules and regulations concerning the disposal and
shipping of remains; knowledge of the tools, equipment, and materials
commonly used in the upkeep and repair of public buildings and grounds;
ability to effectively supervise others; ability to deal tactfully
and courteously with the general public. |
