| Education and Experience |
| Minimum age: 16 years at
the time of application. Completion of the tenth grade and no experience
required. |

| Distinguishing Characteristics |
| This is an entry-level, as-needed
position, requiring no previous training or experience. After training,
a Library Page is assigned routine tasks and duties, and works under
direct supervision. |
| |
| Typical Duties |
| Under direct supervision,
performs routine, repetitive, manual work in connection with the use
and maintenance of library resources. Depending upon the unit assigned:
shelves, sorts, shifts, and files library materials following established
procedures; retrieves magazines and other library materials in storage
and returns those materials to their proper storage locations; checks
in returned materials, observing their condition and bringing damaged
materials to the attention of higher level library personnel for disposition;
removes accumulated "Date Due" stickers and security check
cards; organizes returned materials and delivers them to proper sorting
shelves; maintains shelved materials in proper order; performs simple
mending, processing, and jacketing of library materials; delivers
library materials to appropriate locations; clears tables and other
library areas of materials, returning them to their proper locations;
straightens seating areas; picks up litter and discarded materials
throughout the library; ensures buildings are properly closed and
locked; uses typewriter or personal computer to perform simple clerical
tasks; duplicates and collates materials; assists in the preparation
and installation of displays; answers telephones; and performs other
related duties as assigned. |

| Knowledge, Skills, and
Abilities |
| Working knowledge of proper
English usage in oral and written form. Satisfactory ability to: understand
and carry out written and oral instructions, recognize and report
significant problems to the appropriate supervisor(s); perform a variety
of work with frequent change; do repetitive work; perform duties accurately
and neatly; learn and apply principles of filing systems; establish
and maintain good working relationships with others; and type accurately
at a speed of 25 wpm. |

assigned. |

| Other Requirements |
| Performs physical tasks,
such as lifting, bending, stooping, reaching, carrying, and walking
up and down stairs. Must be able to lift and carry library materials
weighing up to 40 lbs. Must be able to perform all the essential functions
of the job assignment. |
