| Education and Experience |
| Education equivalent to completion
of the twelfth grade and one year of experience in a position requiring
frequent public contact. |

| License |
| Possession of an appropriate,
valid California driver's license is required. |
| |
| Typical Duties |
| On an assigned route and
schedule: reads water and electric meters and enters readings into
a handheld meter data recorder. On a daily basis: reads water and
electric meters which are located on the customer's property; respects
the property of others when entering the yards, homes, or buildings
of customers; drives a City vehicle, walks long distances, climbs
stairs, lifts water meter box covers, heavy gratings covering industrial
water meter vaults, trap doors, and opens and closes heavy gates and
doors; reports complaints; and performs other related duties as assigned. |

| Knowledge, Skills, and
Abilities |
| Ability to: make simple arithmetical
calculations quickly and accurately and to keep simple records; follow
oral and written instructions; learn to read water and electric meters
and to record readings by entering data through a 10-key pad; deal
tactfully and courteously with the general public; and perform physical
labor including lifting 50 pounds of static weight. |

| Works under the general direction
of the Utility Field Services Supervisor or higher level classifications
as assigned. |

| May assist in the training
of inexperienced meter reader employees. |
