NewsreleasesSanta Clara Memorial Day Observations Santa Clara, Calif. - May 7, 2008 - The Santa Clara Veterans Committee announces upcoming observations honoring veterans of all branches of the military, and commemorating the veterans who have lost their lives. Three services will occur on Memorial Day, Monday, May 26, 2008 and will be performed by American Legion Post 419 in the City of Santa Clara.
The impressive memorial ceremony flies the flags of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marines. See SantaClaraVeteransmemorial.com for details. For more information about these Memorial Day activities, contact Santa Clara Veterans Committee Member Jim Lee at 408-296-2512. On Memorial Day, the City of Santa Clara’s Avenue of Flags will also be on display on Kiely Blvd. along the front of the Veterans Memorial and also across the Winchester Blvd. frontage of the City cemetery. More than six dozen U.S. flags measuring 9 feet by 6 feet will be flown, creating a colorful tableau. These flags are flown annually on Memorial Day as well as on Presidents Day, Flag Day, July 4th, Labor Day and Veterans Day, and were originally donated to the City by Mission City Community Fund, with funding provided by the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
