Santa Clara, Calif.– November 3, 2005 – Silicon Valley Power (SVP), the City of Santa Clara's municipal electric utility, is offering a $35 rebate to its customers for removing an older working refrigerator under its new refrigerator recycling rebate program. The program supports the proper recycling refrigerator components and permanently removes these high-energy-usage refrigerators from the grid. The recycling rebate may be used in conjunction with the $50 efficiency rebate currently available for the purchase of a new Energy Star®-qualified refrigerator.

“This refrigerator recycling program aims to help our customers rid themselves of those old, energy wasting refrigerators. Proper disposal of refrigerators is important to all of us, and if replaced with a new efficient model, customers will surely see their electric bills drop,” said Joyce Kinnear, Public Benefit Program Manager for SVP.

Residents may recycle up to two units per household and must own the appliances. Customers must call toll free at (877) 577-0510 to recycle a refrigerator or freezer. The refrigerator/freezers must be in working order and at least 14 cubic feet. The recycling program covers 200 units through June 2006, and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. The refrigerator incentive joins the many other appliance rebates offered by SVP.
