| The Planning Division is a part of the Planning
and Inspection Department. The Division coordinates development
proposals in the City. The services and responsibilities of
the Planning Division are framed by several government codes,
regulations, statutes and other procedural documents, including:
|
| |
- California Government Code
- Public Resources Code
- The City Charter
- City of Santa Clara General Plan
- City of Santa Clara Zoning Ordinance
|
| Members of the Planning Division serve as staff
to the following regular commissions: |
- Planning Commission
- Historical and Landmarks Commission
|
| |
| A description of the functions and membership
of these commissions as well as their agendas and minutes may
be found by proceeding to the Board
& Commissions section of this website. |
| |
| Division members also act as staff to the Architectural
Committee which is made up of one City Council member and two
Planning Commissioners. The Committee reviews project plans
for urban design, architectural, landscaping and other aesthetic
considerations, generally prior to submittal of drawings for
building permits. Architectural review typically encompasses
projects which otherwise have met all applicable zoning requirements.
Staff prepares agendas and minutes of the meetings which are
generally conducted twice a month. Staff also provides assistance
to local and regional airport, housing, technology, transportation
and related planning efforts of interest to the City. The Division
has also coordinated development of the City's first Smart
Permit Information System providing online permit information
to the community. |
