The Adopt-a-Highway program has gone a long
way toward keeping California roadways cleaner of litter.
Now a similar program is being launched by the Valley Transportation
Agency (VTA) to keep transit stops cleaner and free of debris.
The Adopt-A-Stop program will match up the 4,500 bus and
light rail stops in Santa Clara County with individuals, families,
clubs, organizations and businesses who want to demonstrate
civic pride and clean up the community. There are 50 bus stops
with benches in Santa Clara alone that are candidates for
adoption.
Participants in the Adopt-a-Stop program agree to pick up
litter at the adopted site, empty the trash receptacle and
recycle/dispose of trash properly. They also are charged with
informing VTA of graffiti or other problems with their adopted
stop.
A sign recognizing the clean-up efforts of the adopter will
be installed at the stop and VTA will also feature the participant
in publications and programs. For information on how to get
started, call 321-7577. |
