To help you stay informed, the City of Santa Clara has created a webpage that will be updated as new information with a local impact becomes available: Coronavirus Updates

On March 11, 2020, the City of Santa Clara declared a local state of emergency due to the growing novel coronavirus, or COVID-19, outbreak in Santa Clara County. The City began providing only essential services as of March 17, 2020. The City is in regular communications with the County of Santa Clara Public Health Department, the County's Office of Emergency Management and other community partners in regards to the public health emergency.

Update 4/9/2020: On the afternoon of Thursday, April 9, the County of Santa Clara Public Health Department unveiled an updated COVID-19 Cases Dashboard that now includes city data and deaths by race/ethnicity.

Public health officials report there are 62 new cases for a total of 1,442, with one new death for a total of 47 coronavirus-related deaths in Santa Clara County. Per County Public Health, there are 54 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the city of Santa Clara.

Also, effective Monday, April 13, 2020, changes are coming to residential curbside collection service. Due to updated directives in the handling of extra material during solid waste collection services, Recology South Bay will no longer collect material outside of residents’ recycling carts. This includes extra cardboard, fluorescent bulbs, used motor oil and used motor oil filters.

Please follow these guidelines:

  • Cut up large recycling material, such as cardboard, to fit inside your recycling cart.
  • Store all other materials, such as fluorescent bulbs, used motor oil and used motor oil filters, until regular services resume.
  • To assist our service providers in additional safety measures and to minimize contact of carts, please ensure all carts are 18” to 21” apart.

For questions, contact Recology South Bay at 408-970-5100.
