The City of Santa Clara recently completed the sale of approximately 10,000 acres of land to the Washoe Tribe, providing the Tribe the opportunity to purchase and steward land with deep ancestral ties.

The property was originally acquired by the City in 1977 as part of an effort to explore geothermal energy opportunities. While those plans did not move forward, the City recognized an opportunity to transition ownership of the property in a way that aligned with its values of responsible governance, sustainability, and stewardship.
