One of Santa Clara's jewels, this lovely home was designed in a local interpretation of the Colonial Revival style by prominent Santa Clara County architect Louis T. Lenzen for Fred and Maude Franck. With the dose of the 19th century, home builders turned away from European influences and architecture and sought new styles reflecting American history. They discovered the charm of colonial houses "mellowed in place as nothing else -in America seemed to be." The elements of these homes: classic columns, prominent porticos and molded geometric patterns were easy to imitate with the materials and technology available, and the Colonial Revival revolution began.

Fred was the Son of Senator Frederick C. Franck, a civic leader and town trustee for eight years and a member of the State Senate in 1894-96. His father's house next door, today the site of the Wells Fargo Bank, resulted in the placement of this home's front door-both houses faced each other. Ownership remained with the Franck family until Maude's death in December, 1960.
