The Building Division provides high-quality and efficient services for the community through its Permit Center, Plan Review, and Inspection Services.

The Division is responsible for the approval of projects across the span of its many stages, from permit issuance, design review, construction, to use. In addition, the Building Division staff ensures buildings and structures are in compliance with the Building Code in order to safeguard the public health, safety and general welfare of people in the built environment.

The Division administers City and state regulations for the design, construction, use, and occupancy of all buildings in Santa Clara.

Permitting & Plan Review Services

Through the Permit Center, we issue building permits and check building plans to enforce local and state laws related to building construction, maintenance, use, repair, and rehabilitation. This includes enforcing state-mandated energy conservation, disabled access, and housing laws.

Inspection Services

We provide inspection services after a building permit is issued for building construction to ensure compliance with approved plans. These are provided for new residential, commercial and industrial buildings, additions, remodels, repairs, and changes in use.
