Building Simple Permits is a simplified permitting option available for some residential projects. It’s designed to be quick and easy, while making sure your project meets all applicable building codes and regulations. With Building Simple Permits, you can typically receive approval for your building permit within 1-2 business days.

Fees paid are non-refundable. They will not be credited or applied toward any future or corrected permit application. Applicants are strongly encouraged to read all instructions and acknowledgements carefully before submitting.

Getting Started

Note: Projects located in historic areas, with active code enforcement cases, or that have other Parcel Conditions are not eligible for Building Simple Permits. Townhomes, apartment complexes, and condos are also not eligible.

Building Simple Permits are available for limited, like-for-like projects for single-family dwellings, duplexes, and ADUs only. These are the project types you can apply for:

Residential HVAC
- Like-for-like furnace replacements
- Like-for-like air conditioner replacements
- Like-for-like ductwork replacements
Residential PV with SolarAPP+
Residential Re-Roof
- Roofing replacements, excluding structural work
Residential Sewer or Water
- Water re-piping in the house
- Water service line or sewer service line replacement from the house to the property line
- Clean-out replacement/installation
  - Property line clean-out work also requires an encroachment permit from the Department of Public Works.
Residential Water Heater
- Like-for-like water heater replacements
