Lafayette Protected Bikeway Project

The City of Santa Clara has conducted extensive public outreach to install bicycle facilities on Lafayette Street between Laurelwood Road and Reed Street. The Bicycle Plan Update 2018 design recommendation for the segment is a Class IV protected bicycle lane.

In order to install a Class IV protected bicycle lane, on-street parking on Lafayette Street between Memorex Drive and Parker Street will need to be removed. A parking analysis was conducted to demonstrate how the parking removal will affect parking availability in the adjacent neighborhood. The parking analysis results, and project concepts were shared at several public meetings. On September 12, 2023, City Council voted to remove parking to install a Class IV protected bicycle lane as part of a pilot project.
