MenuSafe Routes to School
Safe Routes to School is a free program for local schools that integrates health, fitness, traffic relief, environmental awareness, and safety. The goal is to ensure that students can safely walk, bike, and roll to and from school to encourage healthy physical activity into their daily routines. The program includes the following notable activities:
- Safe Routes to School maps
- Bicycle and pedestrian rodeos
- Walk and bike to school Days
- Bicycle helmet and safety equipment giveaways
- Safety education curriculum
- Teacher, staff, and parent workshops
Funding for the program comes from the 2016 Measure B Bicycle and Pedestrian Education and Encouragement Program administered by the Valley Transportation Authority (VTA), State of California Office of Traffic Safety Grant, and City funding. The City has hired the consultant, Safe Moves, to assist with administering the program, which includes 17 schools (12 continuing from prior phases and 5 new schools).
