Water Service Line Inventory

Lead and Copper Rule

Water & Sewer Utilities completed the initial inventory of Santa Clara's water service lines for the Lead and Copper Rule Revisions set by the United States Environmental Protection Agency. Staff inspected meter boxes at more than 2,000 locations. No lead material was found during inspections.

The remaining services that were not inspected were classified as non-lead based on the following:

  • Proximity to field-inspected locations
  • Historical records
  • Pipe diameter greater than or equal to 4 inches or
  • Installation date after the lead ban

Water service line inventories were submitted to the State Division of Drinking Water (DDW), which enforces the California Lead and Copper Rule to comply with the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s Lead and Copper Rule Revisions

The City of Santa Clara Water & Sewer Utilities is committed to providing our customers with a safe and reliable supply of high quality drinking water.
