Santa Clara: The Road to SB50

Working closely with our partners - Santa Clara University, Mission College, Santa Clara Chamber of Commerce, California's Great America, San Francisco Bay Area Super Bowl 50 Host Committee and many others - the City of Santa Clara planned a series of events in Santa Clara leading up to February 7, 2016 for the Big Game. The football-themed activities were fun, enjoyable and family friendly, as well as showcased the majesty and diversity of this unique region including its rich past and bright future.

Pro Football Hall of Fame Exhibit Pro Football Hall of Fame Gridiron Glory Exhibit

January 18, 2016 – March 2016

The Pro Football Hall of Fame’s 50th Anniversary largest-ever traveling exhibit captured the essence of the Hall of Fame with many artifacts exhibited for the first time. An interactive fan experience allowed fans to make the call in an Instant Replay booth; attempt to kick field goals and much more. Autograph sessions with former Super Bowl players were featured opening weekend and in the days leading up to SB50.

The Santa Clara Super Community Celebration was a day-long festival offering local and visiting fans the chance to participate in the festivities in the final hours lead-up to Super Bowl 50. Fans of all teams and ages were invited to join us at Santa Clara University to experience firsthand the excitement as we geared up for the Big Game.

A spectacular kickoff took place to the Countdown to Kickoff events with a black and gold tree lighting in honor of the golden game, outdoor ice rink with celebrity skaters, capped by fireworks at Central Park.

A commemorative art piece celebrated the playing of the 50th Super Bowl in Santa Clara for many years to come, titled “Anything’s Possible.” Unveiled on Jan. 6, 2016, the piece was be displayed on the walkway across from Levi‘s Stadium.

A celebration of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) was held with the theme “Experience from Afar.” What's in store for the future of viewing football games? The STEM Innovation Bowl demonstrated immersive technologies and highlighted virtual reality, augmented reality, telepresence robots, computer vision, gaming and Santa Clara’s interactive map tool, MapSantaClara. Six presentations did a deep dive into the technologies.
